Head’s Welcome

Welcome to the Meadows Primary School. My name is Mr Naughton and I am delighted (and excited!) to be the new Headteacher at The Meadows Primary School. Welcome to our updated website, I hope that you find it informative and interesting. We are always happy to help with any queries if you contact the school. I hope that our website gives you an insight to some of the exciting activities that take place in our school.

There has been a school on this site since 1957 and we had a partial rebuild in 2015/16 when part of the old school was demolished. The remaining part of the old building has now been demolished and a new build is due to start this month. This is a fabulous opportunity for the school, although it will create some disruption over the coming months – we ask parents and carers to bear with us as we go through that period. The school is three form entry (90 children)  and we currently have 570 children on full-time role and once the build is completed this will rise to 630.

I am looking forward to getting to know the school community better over the next few months, so if you see me around school, please feel free to stop me and introduce yourself!

The teaching staff are extremely committed to the academic and social education of the children, all the staff in the school, as well as the whole school community, work together to ensure that this happens. I am currently getting to know the children, and what an amazing group of children they are! I have been overwhelmed with their friendliness and their positive attitude to their learning over the short time that I have been here. As a school we get to know our children very well and the children are encouraged to make positive learning relationships with all. We have a high expectation of our children academically, but we also appreciate that there are a number of talents within our school.

This can be seen in many ways, one of which is our very active sporting ethos within the school, and our bulging trophy cabinet reflects our many sporting achievements. We aim to develop strong partnerships with parents and carers, governors and the local community who play such an important part in the life of our thriving school. I hope our website will give visitors a taste of our school as well as providing regular updated information for all. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything else you would like to know about our school. Thank you for visiting.

  1. Dear Mr Naughton

I was one of the first intake to Meadows in 1958. I have recently published some boyhood memories including a chapter that is largely about my time at Meadows. The book is called Not Great Hopes: a Birmingham Boyhood. I went on to teach and was for six years Director of Children’s Services in Staffordshire – Meadows got me off to a good start. If you would like a copy I would be happy to send one to you.
